Our clients sometimes ask us for translation proofreading.
For example, a client recently asked us to check a translation that had been made for them by another company. They had actually realised that the translation had not been done by a professionist and contained many language mistakes and wrong terminology.

Our client made a video presentation of their company. They were unsure about the quality of the translation that had been made for them by their video provider and wanted us to check the text before it was submitted for voice-over in English.
They asked to edit the English version and translate it from scratch as necessary.
The first step is to send the initial text to a mother-tongue translator to ask for their opinion.
In this particular case, the text contained inaccurate terminology, grammar errors and the syntax looked very much like the Italian version. Basically it didn’t sound as English to a native speaker.
As a second step, we report the comments of our native translator to the client.
Thirdly, if they accept to have the translation edited by us we ask the client two important questions:
Without going into the differences between the British or American English, you should ask the client which variant they prefer as a first step. In some cases it’s not just a difference of spelling, but also vocabulary. So it’s important to clarify this aspect
A second point to be very clear about is whether or not the client wants to view the corrections made to the original document or not. Using the Revisions Tool in Microsoft Office can choose to show the edits made to a document (e.g. deletions, changes, additions, comments )
We usually give the customer two versions, a file with ‘Track Changes’ turned on (so they can view Edits) and a ‘clean’ file ready for printing.
The advantage for client is that they can see the edits made to the document and at the same time have a text ready to use.
